Year of the Health and Care Worker – a WHO programme

The Year of the Health and Care Workers (YHCW) aims to increase investment, education and protection for health and care workers, who have been at the forefront of the COVID-19 pandemic response.

The quarterly seminars are facilitated and chaired by HEE, in collaboration with thought-leaders from WHO member states. These events cover the importance of workforce planning in responding to system shocks such as COVID-19, planning for specific professions, maximising contributions from other professions in health and care.

Important insights are continuously made for each participating country in these sets and many future-leaders have been developing an advocation for implementing a strategic approach to the health workforce.

These sets have been so impactful that some nations health and care systems are developing their workforce strategies as an output of these sessions. To date seminars have been attended by nearly 1000 people. The recordings of these online have amassed over 3000 views.
