Clinical Fellowships

Overview

Please note, the clinical fellowships are recruited for and delivered by NHS England – East of England on behalf on NHS Global Fellowships Programme.

The clinical fellowships currently on offer are known as the Global Health Fellowship Volunteer Programme (GHFVP) and it is open to all doctors in speciality training for General Practice, Paediatrics and ACCS in English deaneries. The aim of the programme is to make a contribution to the improvement of health outcomes in rural and resource-poor communities. Global Health fellows will have the opportunity to use their specialty skills, for example in Anaesthesia, Childcare and Family Medicine. They will also have the opportunity to work with international colleagues, supporting their personal and professional development as both individuals and doctors. This includes leadership, teamwork, decision-making and resilience, along with enhanced clinical skills they will bring to the NHS on their return. Doctors are normally recruited during ST/CT 1 or 2 and deployed at ST/CT 3 level for 4-6 months to low resource medical facilities in:

  • Kenya
  • Malawi
  • Sierra Leone
  • South Africa
  • Uganda
  • Zambia

Global Health fellows are supported by a small stipend from NHSE to cover travel and living expenses. Please refer to and read the FAQs below before submitting your claim.
