Supporting the NHS System

For the NHS to be effective, England needs a workforce which is adaptable, resilient, culturally intelligent and responsive to local needs. Since its inception, the NHS Systems team of the Global Health Unit has worked to deliver such a workforce by increasing new workforce supply, developing new roles, upskilling existing staff with additional competencies, promoting more responsive ways of working, and helping to identify and develop new and existing leaders.

The NHS Systems’ current programmes of work supporting recruitment and employment into the NHS through education delivers on our core responsibility to ensure the NHS has the right workforce in place to deliver high quality care.

It does this through mutually beneficial global partnerships.

The NHS Systems team have three broad areas of work:

  • Globalising the HEE Star – Developing a global mindset in ICS organisation across England, allowing the HEE Star to be used as a conduit for global learning and workforce transformation
  • Partnership Programmes between GHU & ICSs – Developing partnership programmes between the Global Health Unit and ICS organisations in England to explore and deliver global health workforce solutions
  • Delivering MEPs – Delivering the Managed Education Partnerships (MEPs) to support NHS and global workforce strengthening
